Wind and Hail Damage Insurance Claims

Hail damage chalk marked shingle hit

When a storm rolls through Charlotte, wind and hail leave two kinds of damage. Some of it is obvious: a fallen tree on the roof, a limb through the shingles, gutters torn off the fascia. Most of it is not. Lifted and creased shingles, hail bruises in the granules, dented vents and downspouts, and punctures the size of a thumb all sit up on the roof where nobody looks until the ceiling stains.

Charlotte’s Best Roofing and Gutters puts a state licensed adjuster on that roof, documents every hit, and manages the claim with your carrier from the first call to the last shingle. The inspection is free and there is no obligation.

Charlotte's Best Roofing and Gutters is the only company in Charlotte, NC to offer both a 10-year workmanship warranty and the guarantee that your claim is overseen by a licensed insurance adjuster.

Wind, hail, or a fallen tree. We answer every claim question, no matter the peril.

What Wind Does to a Roof

Straight-line winds and the gusts off a summer thunderstorm do not need to take the whole roof to cause a claim. Wind lifts the leading edge of a shingle, breaks the seal strip, and leaves it flapping or creased so it never lies flat again. Ridge caps and pipe boots go first. A falling branch punctures the decking, and a tree resting on the roof crushes rafters you cannot see from the ground.

Every one of those is wind damage your policy covers, and every one is easy to miss from the driveway. We photograph and chalk each damaged shingle so the carrier’s adjuster sees exactly what ours saw.

Hail damage is quieter. Stones the size of a quarter bruise the shingle, knock the granules loose, and expose the asphalt mat to the sun. The roof looks fine for a season, then leaks and ages a decade in one summer.

We inspect for hail hits per test square the way carriers do, and we check the soft metals, the vents, gutters, downspouts and window wraps, for dents that prove the size of the storm. The claim file is built on that evidence, not on a guess.

Why a Licensed Adjuster Matters

Most roofers can point at damage. A state licensed adjuster can read your policy, meet the carrier’s adjuster on the roof as an equal, and argue the scope line by line: full replacement instead of a patch when the shingles are discontinued, code upgrades your policy owes you, and the gutters and downspouts the first estimate left out.

Our adjusters work for you, not for the insurance company, and Charlotte’s Best Roofing and Gutters is the only company in Charlotte to pair that with a 10-year workmanship warranty on the repair.

How a Storm Damage Claim Works

Every wind and hail claim we manage follows the same six steps:

  1. Free inspection within days of the storm, with photos and chalk marks on every hit.
  2. You file the claim. We give you the date of loss and the documentation your carrier asks for.
  3. Adjuster meeting. We meet your carrier’s adjuster on the roof for the inspection.
  4. Scope review. We read the estimate and dispute anything missing or underpaid.
  5. The work. Once the claim is approved, you pay your deductible and we handle the rest.
  6. Depreciation release. We submit the completion paperwork so the carrier releases the final payment.

Emergency Tarping and Timing

Wind and hail claims have a clock. Most policies want the claim reported promptly and expect you to prevent further damage, so we tarp open roofs the same day where we can and photograph everything before we cover it.

Hold off on permanent repairs until the carrier has inspected, and do not sign a contract on the hood of a truck the day after a storm. Get the inspection, get the file, then decide.
